The South Texas Literacy Coalition presented a Little Library and books to Precinct 2 as a way to bring books to areas of the county that do not have easy access to book stores and libraries, said CEO Ida Acuna-Garza.

The outreach program has provided books to over 7,000 people with a value of $2 million.

"Our goal is to provide literacy to lower income families and to aid in raising the percentage of the literacy rate among adults and children in the Rio Grande Valley," said Acuna-Garza.

Acuna-Garza said they plan to provide Little Libraries to other precincts in the near future. The mobile library units will be placed at Community Resource Centers and in public spaces within the precincts, she said.
