Potable water is a precious and vital commodity necessary to support human life, critical to economic development and for the general benefit of all communities.

Commissioners Court unanimously passed a resolution declaring support of a regional potable water transmission during commissioners court meeting on Nov 1, 2016. Hidalgo County willingly supports and partners with McAllen Public Utility as it works to determine the feasibility of constructing a regional potable water transmission line to the east of its current service area.

"We believe that partnering with McAllen Public Utility helps us support not only other municipalities, but all communities along the route," said Precinct 2 Chief Administrator Armando Garza.

Accepting the resolution were MPU Chairman Ernest Williams and Assistant General Manager J.J. Rodriguez. Williams thanks Commissioners Court for its support of the project.

"We can work as a region to go to Austin to help us with projects," Williams said.

The Rio Grande River is the most viable source of raw water for the residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and Hidalgo County recognizes the importance of a reliable source of potable water for their residents which will result in promoting tourism and support economic development opportunities for our region.
