On Wednesday, Nov. 2, residents of Peñitas along with officials from Agrilife Extension and members of Hidalgo County Precinct 3 gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the future of a new walking trail.  The trail will be located at Katarina Park off of Mile 7 Road and Sabal Palm Drive in Peñitas.

The walking trail is a progressive step in improving the quality of life of its surrounding residents.

The new trail will be made possible from a $30,000 Working on Wellness (WOW) grant awarded to Texas A & M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas A & M Science Center by the Centers for Disease Control.  The grant promotes good health and physical activity.

County Extension Agent Andrea Valdez from Texas Agrilife Extension Service said “We partnered with Precinct 3, to help us with the maintenance, the labor and starting the walking trail”

Valdez added, “The Grant provides the materials and the expertise.”

The walking trail is a progressive step in improving the quality of life of its surrounding residents.

Completion of project is expected by mid-December.
