Precinct 1 Commissioner A.C. Cuellar Jr. presented a resolution in honor of the Weslaco High School Lady Panthers Varsity softball team, who recently ended the season with a 4-0 loss to Pearland in the UIL state semifinals.
Although a young team, comprised of freshmen, sophomores and juniors, the team made Weslaco high history by becoming the first team to make it to the final four.
The team, all wearing their team shirts and sporting their medals, includes: Sydney Zepeda, Mikella Trevino, Audrey Escamilla, Alyssa Escamilla, Helen Gonzalez, Ariel Amador, Jenny Guillen, Ashley Sada, Gabriela Rivera, Charlene De Anda, Madelyn Ybarra, Taylor Tafolla, Amaya Salinas, Laurynn De Anda, Amberly Barrera, and Iliana Trujillo. They were joined at Commissioners Court by Head Coach Mario Rodriguez, Interim School Superintendent Filomena Leo, and School Board President David L. Fuentes.
"We are so proud of this team and their accomplishments," Leo said.
Fuentes thanked the parents for supporting the team.
"I want to thank the parents for being there for their daughters since pony league," Fuentes said.
