There was a surge of energy at Commissioners Court, when the Edinburg High School varsity cheerleaders took center stage to be recognized on the team’s fourth consecutive national championship title at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) competition in January.
About 100 teams from across the country competed in the NCA Senior and Junior High School National Competition. In addition to taking the title, the team also won the Specialty Award for Best Jumps and Best Stunts. The team is comprised of Seniors Julie Mendoza, Captain; Yessi Molina, Captain; Juan Banda; Kimberly De Leon; Breanna Peña and Aissa Velasquez; Juniors Arrik Bazan; Sarah De la Fuente; Denise Garza; Alexa Olguin; JoVonne Prado; Emilee Ramos and Samantha Torres; Sophomores Karina Alfaro; Karissa De Leon; Natalie Martinez; Casey Peña; Bryana Perez; Maria Reyes; Miranda Velazquez; and Marcus Villanueva; and Freshmen Pauline Moralez; Nadia Rodriguez and Fatima Torres. Their coaches are Eva Guerra-Perez and Valerie Cortez, and choreographer coaches are Danielle Valdez, Dion Luna, Caleb Echols, and Alex Tanguma.
Commissioners Court approved a resolution in honor of the cheerleaders and congratulated them on their fourth consecutive national title.
