Precinct 1 residents located in La Villa, Edcouch, Monte Alto, Hargill and the northern parts of Weslaco, Donna, and Mercedes now have a more convenient location to conduct their governmental business in the Delta Area. Recently, Precinct 1 opened the Delta Area Tax Office - Justice of the Peace Substation in Elsa.
Commissioner A.C. Cuellar Jr. and his office held a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 to showcase the newly remodeled facility. Among the speakers at the ceremony were Hidalgo Coutny Judge Ramon Garcia, Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Villarreal Jr. and Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Place 1 Gilberto Saenz.
In addition to the tax and motor vehicle services, the substation will house offices for JP Saenz and Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Place 2 Jesus E. Morales. The centralized location will allow residents to pay their fees and fines in Elsa, rather than driving to their Weslaco offices.
Commissioner Cuellar said the new facility will relieve the busy Weslaco Substation, reducing traffic and wait times.
“We are strongly committed to expanding county services in this area,” said Cuellar. “We have been working on this project since 2013 to better serve our Delta area residents with their own substation.”
The remodeling cost an estimated $50,000 with much of the repairs being conducted by Hidalgo County Facilities Management workers which helped reduce the cost.
The substation is located at 708 E. Edinburg Ave., Suite B in Elsa (behind the U.S. Post Office) and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For Justice of the Peace Substation call 956-447-3995 and for the Tax Office Substation call 956-292-7622.
