The Court appointed T.J. Arredondo as the new director for the Planning Department. Arredondo replaces Raul Sesin, who was hired to head Drainage District #1. Arredondo had served as Planning Supervisor under Sesin for eight years, and prior to that held the position of Planner II with the department.
As a key member of the Planning Department, Arredondo was directly involved in the following areas: the adoption of the Hidalgo County Subdivision Statutes, Regulations, and Rules Protocol and Policy; the creation of the Hidalgo County Board of Building Line Adjustments; the adoption of the Order Establishing Rules for Junkyards, Automotive Wrecking, and Salvage Yards; the adoption of the Order Establishing Rules for Roadside Vendors in the unincorporated areas of Hidalgo County (based on a Bill proposed by the Hidalgo County Planning Department); the adoption of a $30.00 fee for the processing of utility certificates found in Local Gov. Code 232 (Based on a Bill proposed by the Hidalgo County Planning Department); the adoption of the Mobile Food Vendor Order in conjunction with the County Health Department and the establishment of the Commercial Review Process that requires off-street parking and storm water detention in multi-family and commercial projects.
Arredondo plans to continue efforts to equip the Planning Department with tools to enhance land use compatibility and provide for a better quality of life for the citizens of Hidalgo County.
