Breast Cancer is one of the most urgent health concerns facing women today. It is the most prevalent form of non-skin cancer diseases affecting women; this year approximately 40,000 individuals will die from this disease in the United States.

While there are factors known to increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer, nearly 80 percent of women diagnosed do not exhibit any of the determinant factors. Medical experts stress the importance of early screening and recommend that all women 40 years of age and above have a mammogram and clinical breast examination, as early detection of signs and symptoms of breast cancer can increase the survival rate by nearly 95 percent.

The court approved a proclamation in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The resolution was accepted by Mario Liscano, Government Affairs Director with Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance. Mr. Liscano thanked the court and encouraged Hidalgo County residents to take part in related activities and initiatives that help raise awareness of this serious health concern which has claimed too many lives over the years.
