The former Mayor of Peñitas is now the new Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, Place 2. Marcos Ochoa was sworn into office in front of family, friends and other elected officials at the Faith Fellowship Bible Church in Peñitas. Standing next to his wife of 32 years, Maria, and his daughter, Lizette Marie, Judge Ochoa took the oath to uphold the law as he was sworn in by Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia .

Ochoa has dedicated his life to public service. He was elected to the Peñitas City Council in 1998 and during that time saw his community of less than 3,000 residents grow to almost 8,000. In 2008, he was elected Mayor of Peñitas and served there until his resignation this week. Ochoa helped secure funding for a new waste water system to replace the septic tanks previously used in his community. He also helped transition the police department from part time to full time status, attracted major businesses to create job opportunities and is currently working to extend roadways along 3 Mile Line.

After the swearing, Ochoa graciously thanked all his supporters and pledged to maintain the integrity and commitment the office deserves.
