The Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service awarded Hidalgo County with the "Building A Better Texas Award" at the May 27 Commissioners Court meeting. Brad Cowen, County Extension Agent IV - Agriculture, extended his gratitude for the continuous cooperation and support provided by Commissioners, making it possible for the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service to reach residents of Hidalgo County with much needed educational programs.
This year marks 100 years of partnership with Hidalgo County. In May of 1914, the National Cooperative Extension Service was established by the Smith-Lever Act, which created a state-by-state network of educators who extend land grant university knowledge and life skills to help people in the community thrive and prosper. Commissioners said they were honored to receive the award and look forward to long and continuous partnership with the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service of Hidalgo County.
