[ARCHIVED] COMMISSIONERS COURT APPROVES RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF JUDGE CARLOS VILLALON, JR.

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved a resolution in honor of Judge Carlos Villalon, Jr., for his recent appointment in December 2013, by the Honorable Eva Guzman, Justice Supreme Court of Texas Chair, to be a Children's Commission Member of the Supreme Court of Texas Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth and Families. Judge Villalon was appointed for a 3 year term and Commission Members include officials from the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and Child Protective Services (CPS), non-profit foundations and state bar leaders, private attorneys, legislators, judges, elected officials, and other child welfare stakeholders. In his new appointment, Judge Villalon will take part in overseeing numerous projects and programs, and increase communication and collaboration between the judiciary and CPS, and other stakeholders in the child protection system.

Judge Villalon achieved success by pursuing his education, attending the University of Texas - Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, and obtaining his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1991. He decided to pursue a legal career and attended St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1997.

Judge Villalon is currently serving as the Associate Judge of the Child Protection Court of the Rio Grande Valley West, Fifth Administrative Judicial Region; Judge Villalon was appointed in 2012 by the Honorable J. Rolando Olvera, Jr., Presiding Judge of the 5th Administrative Judicial Region; Judge Villalon conducts hearings in CPS cases in Hidalgo and Starr Counties, and promotes collaboration between CPS, parents, and attorneys in order to expedite permanency for children.

Judge Villalon was accompanied by his wife, Marisela Villalon and daughter Tori. Judge Villalon was also accompanied by members of his staff, Assistant Court Coordinator Lettie Silva and Court Bailiff Agustin De La Rosa.

Upon receiving the resolution, Judge Villalon humbly thanked Commissioners Court for the recognition and expressed his gratitude by taking a moment to reflect on how he began his appointment as Associate Judge of Child Protective Court.

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court recognizes and congratulates the Honorable Judge Carlos Villalon, Jr., for his distinguished appointment, for his leadership and commitment to protect the lives of children, and for his dedication to serving the citizens of Hidalgo County and the State of Texas.
