The County Clerk’s involvement in the Vital Statistics department is principally in the issuing of marriage licenses, the recording of birth and death certificates, and the issuing of certified copies of the same. The clerk is closely supported in these activities by the Vital Statistics Unit (“VSU”) of the Texas Department of the State Health Services in Austin (formerly known as the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Texas Department of Public Health.)
Military Records, specifically Veteran Discharge Forms (DD-214), are accepted for filing in the Vital Statistics Department at no charge.
Cattle Brand Recording and Certificating is also conducted in this department. Renewals must be made every 10 years on cattle brands.
