Judge Mario E. Ramirez, Jr. Juvenile Justice Center
EMPLOYMENT
The Judge Mario E. Ramirez, Jr. Juvenile Justice Center employs staff for a variety of positions. Aside from filling positions required in directly supervising youth & their families such as juvenile probation officers, the Department employs juvenile probation administrative staff as well as juvenile probation support staff. An extension of the Juvenile Justice Center includes the operation a Detention Center that is adjoined to the Juvenile Justice Center and a Boot Camp Facility that is located in Weslaco, Texas. Positions available in these two programs include juvenile supervision officers (detention officers), along with juvenile supervision administrative staff, support medical personnel, and positions required in the operation of the Boot Camp Facility. The Juvenile Justice Center further employs positions responsible in the up keeping of the full operation of professional equip kitchens in these two Facilities. JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER
To be eligible for employment as a juvenile probation officer:
- You must be at least 21 years of age;
- You must be of good moral character and have no disqualifying criminal history;
- You must have acquired a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field; and
- You must possess one (1) year of full-time work experience in case work, counseling, a therapeutic setting or a Master’s Degree in Human Service or related field;
JUVENILE SUPERVISION OFFICER (Detention Officer)
To be eligible for employment as a juvenile supervision officer:
- You must be at least 21 years of age;
- You must be of good moral character and have no disqualifying criminal history;
- You must have acquired a high school diploma or equivalent;
DISQUALIFYING CRIMINAL HISTORY
- a felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past ten (10) years;
- a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past ten (10) years;
- a current felony deferred adjudication, probation or parole;
- a jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past five (5) years;
- a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another
state, or the United States within the past five (5) years; - a current jailable misdemeanor deferred adjudication, probation or parole; or
- the requirement to register as a sex offender under Chapter 62 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
