Job Title: Public Health Technician III

Description:
Performs advanced (senior-level) public health work.  Work involves preparing goals and objectives for health education programs, evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs, and recommending courses of action for the correction of public health law or regulation violations.  May assign and/or supervise the work of others.  Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. 

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Prepares goals and objectives for health education programs.
  • Monitors procedures for efficiency, and analyzes data for planning and coordinating public health education programs.
  • Coordinates the non-medical portions of public health programs.
  • Formulates definitions, standards, and policies for the effective and efficient rendering of public health services and the enforcement of public health laws and regulations.
  • Recommends courses of action for the correction of public health law and regulation violations, and initiates and pursues legal action when necessary.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs.
  • Participates in the preparation of training materials for use in public health training courses.
  • May conduct public hearings and group discussions related to public health programs, regulations, or proposals.  
  • May assign and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Experience and Education:
Experience in public health work.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in social services, public health, or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of social, economic, and public health issues; of public health laws and regulations; of medical terminology; and of educational techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret public health laws and regulation; to communicate effectively; to analyze and evaluate public health needs; and to assign and/or supervise the work of others.

Work Hours:
7:30am - 5:30pm or as assigned
