Rio Rising ... Rio Recovery

Rio Rising ... Rio Recovery

Many Hidalgo County residents have been adversely affected by the flooding as a result of Hurricane Alex, Tropical Depression No. 2 and subsequent Rio Grande River flooding. While Hidalgo County still continues operations as of August 2010, we have begun on the long road to recovery.

Throughout the next several months, Hidalgo County will be helping flood survivors navigate through the vast sea of assistance -- from applying for FEMA financial aid to getting help through various non-profits and/or faith-based organizations.

On Friday, Aug. 6, Hidalgo County transformed its flood hotline into a disaster recovery hotline. Bilingual operators are taking calls Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assess residents needs and give referrals to a variety of outside agencies.

Please visit our recovery page for the latest information regarding about our efforts to help our residents bounce back from this devastating natural disaster.

Visit our situation reports page for the latest update on how Hidalgo County Emergency Management officials are responding to the flooded Rio Grande River.
