Food Drive 2010
Employees were
challenged by Oscar L. Garza Jr., Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner to
become engaged and motivated to help end hunger in our community. Commissioner
Garza felt so passionate about the cause, he believed that “no child, no
elderly individual and no veteran should be going hungry in Hidalgo County;”
and therefore promised to match any amount that our county family could
contribute, up to $2,500. With the cooperation and generous hearts of many
employees, we were able to collect 2,242 pounds of food along with $622.50 worth of donations.
Employees were able to create 6,614 meals and feed 3,307 people for a day. We are also very grateful for the help we
received from two student organizations from the University of Texas-Pan
American. Phi Kappa Theta (Tau Mu) and the UTPA Junior Dietetics Association
were compassionate enough to help the food bank pick up donations from over 150
locations across the county. We would like to a sincere thank you to all
departments who participated. Thank you!
